We were watching The Matrix last night for about the third time. As I was watching, it suddenly struck me how the story of this digital world was a perfect analog for living in the current political milieu.

Just A Good Ol’ Boy

Bob sent me a link to a story. We often exchange links (although he gets more time for the Internet than me and I’m quite jealous about it). I really wasn’t going to say anything about this story, but when I read this line, I literally laughed out loud. [F]or the record, his wife has […]

Bragging Rights

Frankly, one of my big beefs with Bush is that I don’t understand him. President Bush on Thursday countered gloomy assessments of the situation in Iraq by citing a survey that suggested that Iraqis were more upbeat about their future than Americans were about theirs. “I saw a poll that said the right track/wrong track […]

Calico Cat Stevens

The U.S. is being followed by a moon shadow. Moon shadow, moon shadow. Yusuf Islam recently made the mistake of trying to enter the United States, something he once did regularly as “Cat Stevens.”

Flip-Flop, America’s Taking a Bath

This is a busy day for me. I have a memo on plea bargaining that has to be finished for an attorney by this afternoon. Meanwhile, there are a few short articles definitely worth your time today. The first is one of those exposés of Bush’s “let’s call the kettle black” policy on how to […]

Dumb & Dumber Redux
September 15th, 2004 · 6 Comments
Yesterday, with a post about why Democrats have trouble combating the Republicans, I made disparaging remarks about the intelligence of voters. I failed to provide the proof. It was pretty much a slam dunk. There’s no nice way to say this. Dumb people like him. They think his unwavering nature is a positive personality trait. […]

It’s the Economy, Stupid

It’s the Economy, Stupid? Anyone remember that line? Apparently, voters don’t. Oil shock. Recession. A market crash to rival Black Monday. That’s what Morgan Stanley chief economist Stephen Roach fears could be on the way. Donna Rosato, Paging Dr. Doom, MONEY Magazine, September 14, 2004 (last visited September 14, 2004); subscription required. What voters need […]

Dumb & Dumber

Bob Marcotte sends a link to a CBS News opinion column and says in the Subject line, “This sums it up completely.” And he’s right. So is the columnist. George W. Bush has a record the Democrats should have made mincemeat of. Right about now, the media should be writing, and American voters should be […]

When The Wind Blows…

Montesquieu has interesting things to say about a republic whose leadership and political processes have become corrupted. When…virtue ceases, ambition enters those hearts that can admit it, and avarice enters them all. Desires change their objects: that which one used to love, one loves no longer. One was free under the laws, one wants to […]

Poll: Rhymes with Troll
September 10th, 2004 · No Comments
Bob Marcotte sends me a link to an interesting commentary on polls as the “genital warts of election year.” Personally, I think it’s no accident that “poll” rhymes with “troll.”
