Blog Scum

Posted by Rick · October 23rd, 2003 · No Comments

Well, I got hit by my first blog spammer today. They’re scum.

Coincidentally, the Senate today approved an anti-spam bill. The bill supposedly contains tough new limits. Unfortunately, the bill does not contain the necessary essential deterrent: Until the tide of spam stops, we need to continue to take spammers to court. Once a guilty verdict has been delivered, Fox News (no one else would do this, I’m afraid) could do live interviews of these spammers as they hang suspended by their private parts in front of the camera. Eventually, they should be cut down, but not by cutting the rope, if you catch my drift.

Okay, that might be a little extreme. What we should really do is more humane…

…death by lethal injection. It still needs to be televised, though, so other spammers will get a clear message that we’re serious about this.

Senator Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, notes:

Kingpin spammers who send out e-mail by the millions are threatening to drown the Internet in a sea of trash, and the American people want it stopped.

We do, indeed. But as Tom McCain (okay, okay…I just did that to see if LadyLawyer was still reading) — I mean John McCain — R-Arizona said,

The odds of us defeating spam by legislation alone are extremely low, but that does not mean we should stand idly by and do nothing about it.

And Senator Baucus, D-Montana, said,

While our actions will not eliminate spam entirely, it puts the worst spammers on notice that we will not tolerate their actions any more.

My solution would do that.
