It’s amazing how dependent we’ve become, in “modern” America, on services like the Internet which didn’t even exist (commercially) more than 15 years ago. It’s also amazing how dependent we’ve become on other countries to provide our services.

The Postman Never Rings Once

You really have to love government employees. I mean, could there be a cushier place to work? You get to collect a paycheck and pretend you do something for a living. And the public? F*ck ’em.

The Press Doth Protest Too Much, Methinks
November 11th, 2004 · No Comments
No, no. This isn’t another article about George Bush. It’s too early yet for him to have actually started implementing his mandate to ensure that because “there ought to be limits to freedom,” there will be. Besides, “protest” here isn’t used in the same sense that gives Bush and Rove conniptions. It’s become the norm, […]

Religious Wars: Book I
November 11th, 2004 · 3 Comments
Since — if you believe the pundits — “moral values” (ha!) factored so heavily in the current election, I’m going to be doing several articles on religion. No doubt, I’ll lose many of my readers, too, because I’m told that you are strictly forbidden to say “the Emperor has no clothes” in American society these […]

A New Kind of War
November 9th, 2004 · No Comments
In April of 1775, Frederick MacKenzie complained in his diary, Our men had very few opportunities of getting good shots at the Rebels, as they hardly ever fired but under cover of a Stone wall, from behind a tree, or out of a house; and the moment they had fired they lay down out of […]

U.S. Officials…Terrorists?

It’s about time someone stood up for the Truth. I should say, first, that while I happen to think Rudy Bakhtiar is kinda cute, I also have to agree with the semi-anonymous poster at dvorkin.com — I’m guessing it’s David Dvorkin by the looks of the post (I doubt Lenore would be accused of being […]

Why Bush? An Across-the-Sea Perspective
November 8th, 2004 · No Comments
It’s interesting to see what other parts of the world say about our election. The Bush presidency has had a unifying effect on Europe: he’s a hate-figure to rally around. With ten new countries in the Union, and the new European Constitution just agreed, but not yet ratified, we’re going to need all the unity […]

Democrats “vs.” Republicans
November 7th, 2004 · No Comments
There’s a lot of talk right now about what strategy might have improved things for the Democrats, along with talk of a potential civil war within the party. The talk is unnecessary and premature. Truth is, there’s only one difference between Democrats and Republicans. And it’s closer to the difference between my wife and my […]

Post Election Blues
November 4th, 2004 · 7 Comments
My friends have been asking how I feel. I’m still somewhat in shock. Tuesday, I allowed myself to be exuberant over exit polls showing a very ugly day for Bush. Frankly, I have more faith in exit polling than in electronic voting machines. But for the moment, let’s make a stretch and postulate that the […]

My Constitution
November 4th, 2004 · 9 Comments
Hooray! My Constitution arrived from the evilrooster bindery just in time for a quick read before the election! So I’m a couple days late with posting about it. So sue me. In all seriousness, I’m quite happy with it. This is a hand-bound U.S. Constitution printed on acid-free paper & bound in the “library style” […]
