Spam (In)Justice

I was going to post this on my legal blog, but I just couldn’t.  I don’t care how low my standard of review for Probable Cause is:  as ashamed as I am to admit I’m a part of this faux system of justice, this is one rant that just has to go here.  I can’t put it on my professional site.

While Rome Burns: The Impact of Republican Welfare on the United States

Posted by RickH · September 19th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I’m not even going to bother linking to the latest round of stories about the planned government bail-out of banks.  Suffice it to say that the news today makes it almost impossible to avoid the thought that the economy is in the tank.  Now the very people who put it there are going to take a few stabs at trying to pull it out.

W[h]ither the First Amendment

Posted by RickH · September 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Whither and wither sound the same, but mean different things.

Not to worry. The Republican Party has all bases covered.

Few people know that one of the primary aims of the First Amendment was to protect the right — the supposedly unalienable right — to protest. Think about it: freedom to assemble, freedom of speech, freedom of the press. Why do we need these?  Why were they explicitly protected?

Because without these freedoms, the government can silence protestors, limit freedom, maintain the illusion that the Republican Party is God’s Own Party.

Perhaps this is why Sarah Palin was selected. As governor of “one of the refuge states” (a refuge in the End Times), she’s perfectly suited to carry God’s banner to the Whitehouse.

Karl Rove: “There Ought To Be An Adult”

Posted by RickH · September 15th, 2008 · No Comments

You know things are getting out of hand when the Sleazemeister says things have gone too far.  Rove states that both candidates were guilty, noting that McCain had attributed things to Obama “that are, you know, beyond the ‘100 percent truth’ test.”  When a victim of truthophobia accuses you like this, you know you’re in trouble.

CBS News notes,

McCain has been the aggressor in this slide to negativity and it’s putting pressure on Obama to respond. Either way, this is not the elevated discussion both candidates promised to deliver.

McCain, though, has an explanation:

McCain said last week that he thinks the tone of the campaign would be different had Obama agreed to appear with him in town hall meetings across the country.

O, ‘Bama!  If only you’d done what McCain had demanded.  Don’t you see what you’ve done to the country?  What kind of leader will you make when you force those who run against you to lie in the attempt to defeat you?

This Is My Lawyer…

Posted by RickH · September 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment

...sue me. I dare you.

...sue me. I dare you.

My friend, Bob Marcotte of Marcotte Photography, took about a hundred-and-fifty pictures of me yesterday. He sent this one over via email last night, saying, “This is my lawyer…” in the subject heading. The body, other than the photo, just said “…sue me. I dare you.”

Yes, it’s true. I’m a criminal defense attorney. Find out more at either RHDefense or GangDefense.

I’ll try to post something more substantial and prettier than this soon.  Meanwhile, enjoy the free photo! 😉

My God! What Have I Done?!

Posted by RickH · September 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Right now, I have nothing to add to this.

Well, except this: I’m considering voting for Sarah Palin. I mean, hey…. We spent eight years being fucked by Bush and he didn’t look half as good!

“Just Your Average Hockey Mom”

Posted by RickH · August 30th, 2008 · 4 Comments

My wife — yes, a woman — put this question to me this morning: “Doesn’t McCain want to be President?”

This was my first thought when I heard of his vice-presidential choice, as well.

Let’s review the facts.

Please Don’t Make Me Puke

Posted by RickH · August 28th, 2008 · No Comments

A few weeks ago, I learned that the publishing house of Thomas Nelson was offering free copies of Stephen Mansfield’s book, The Faith of Barack Obama.  In exchange, I promised to review it, but (trust me) this is not for the faint of heart.
