Where in the World is bin Laden?

Interesting point:

Can you imagine the furor from the Limbaugh/FOX [“]News[“] corner if a President Gore hadn’t captured the 9-11 malefactor by now (and had diverted resources to go after someone else instead? And how about if — remember this one? — anthrax packets had been sent to congressional Republican leaders and Gore’s Justice Department hadn’t yet nabbed a culprit?)? Michael Tomasky, CBS News Online, ¶ 8 (September 27, 2004).

The point, of course, is entirely lost on at least half the voters of America. I mean, it doesn’t really matter, does it, as long as we get $600 back for every billion dollar deficit?

The thing that really bothers me, though, is that I think the reason we haven’t heard much lately about bin Laden is that he’s already been captured — probably over a year ago — and that we’re going to get to see him in shackles on (inter)national television the week before the election.

Boo! Did you get scared? No? Well, perhaps you should be. Our blog host has noted an interesting premise.

It might behoove one to think of evil things to come. After all, it is the season for spooky things to happen. Things that go bump in the night, monsters under the bed, Bush searching in his Halloween goodie bag for…poof–Bin Laden!

    October is full of surprises.

    Heh…that story includes this:

Some conspiracy buffs suggest bin Laden already has been captured or perhaps has been trapped by Pakistan in a cave, and will be produced just before the November 2 election.

No matter how far fetched, some Democrats have helped add to the speculation.

People wonder why I say the mainstream media — if it ever had a liberal spin — definitely has a conservative spin these days. We’re labeled “conspiracy buffs” because we think the political party that gave us the “liberals want to ban your Bibles!” mailer might also be holding bin Laden for revelation during the last week pre-election!

I wonder if, when he’s finally revealed, there will be any mainstream media saying “the conspiracy buffs were right,” or if there will just be more pro-Bush celebratory ecstasy over this “coincidental” victory!

Is the belief that they have him — haven’t they caught virtually all the others they were after, including Saddam? — any more “far-fetched” than the idea that if Kerry is elected, liberals (like me, the guy who quotes the Bible on his blog not-infrequently) will ban Bibles?

Scarier than an October surprise is the idea that some people believe the terrorists will be effected by the capture of bin Laden.

Does anyone really think that the bad guys aren’t hiring? They have the best training ground you can ask for in Iraq. You get to learn from experienced terrorists and apply your training against Americans.

This is the Terrorist Ivy League. And most of these fighters are from outside Iraq. They’ll all go home at some point with all this experience under their belt. That decision to invade Iraq just looks worse and worse by the day.

In the debates, Bush kept hitting on the point that 75% of the bad guy leadership was dead or in prison. OK, but has that led to a slowing down of world terror? No, I’m sorry, it hasn’t.

If bin Laden is ever captured it will be dead, not alive. You can keep a cadaver on ice until the exact minute you need it.

Sort of like how they use Rumsfield…
