It Only Took A Few Years

Never let it be said that President George W. Bush is inflexible.

Bush had been referring to the Nebraska Democrat as “Nellie” since 2001. Nelson disliked the nickname and had asked the president to stop using it. — Joey Arak, “The Odd Truth: Whoa, Nellie! Bush Greets Benny”

It only took about four years, too!

I don’t know. Maybe it’s a small thing. But I think calling someone by a nickname they hate — and then refusing to stop when they ask you to because they hate it….

That takes a special kind of contempt and self-righteousness.

It’s worth noting, by the way, that “Bushy” is still not calling the man by his real name.
