…or maybe it’s just that way for fundamentalists.
At any rate, if there was a question in my mind whether something has gone seriously wrong with our country, the question was shot dead when I read CNN this morning.
“Actually it’s quite fun to fight them, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot,” Mattis said, prompting laughter from some military members in the audience. “It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right up there with you. I like brawling.” — Cowardly unattributed story, “Marine general: It’s ‘fun to shoot people'” CNN.com.
The general has “been counseled” and apparently agrees that he should have “chosen his words more carefully.”
The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. — Luke 6:45 (New International Version).
Lt. Gen. James Mattis can rest assured, though, that there will be no repercussions from his comments that he “like[s] brawling” and enjoys killing people. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets a promotion from The War President. Few Republicans appear to share the sentiments of Vice Admiral Edward H. Martin, who said, “I don’t think any of us who have ever fought in wars liked to kill anybody.”
Certainly, the group of Republican students in Milwaukee, Wisconsin selling bracelets with the motto “1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide,” won’t.
