I realize that based upon prevailing views in our civilized nation, this is probably not a popular view, but I find this story quite horrific. It’s just one more (in a long list) of reasons that push me towards Criminal Defense Law once I’ve passed the bar.
I also don’t know how much longer this link will be available. Unfortunately, mainstream news organizations treat news as proprietary. While I understand their need to generate sales and income from their work, I do not understand why they need to remove content — it seems primarily aimed at breaking the links that bloggers like myself make to them. You’d think they’d be happy to have us out here saying, “Hey, you should visit __________ and read this!” It boosts their traffic as much as it might boost ours. But the ownership of news is a topic for another blog entry, another day.
If these news organizations didn’t view the distribution of their content as a zero-sum game, everyone — news organizations, bloggers and readers — would benefit. This choice on their part, which hurts us all, combined with the story above, is why I named this post Prisoner’s Dilemma.
