Some time back, I complained about Molly Ivins’ writing. One of the things I took her to task for was that her articles were written in such a way that only good liberals would read them; others would be too put-off by the constant barrage of insults and digs.
This particular article is more palatable in that regard and is chock-full of facts that everyone should know. It covers a MediCare bill that everyone mistakenly believes is going to benefit senior citizens. (But until 2006, the only people who get any money from it are drug companies; and they get somewhere around $140 billion.) And it also notes a package that actually cost oil companies $71 million — but before you go feeling sorry for them, read on to learn how it turns out they’ll earn $20 billion on that investment.
