Rick Cosby: Bleached & (Not Really) as Funny

Posted by Rick · April 17th, 2004 · 1 Comment

My wife tells me this morning that I remind her of Bill Cosby.

She had a phrase stuck in her head. Katharine Hepburn’s “The calla lilies are in bloom again.”

I offered an alternative. “The spinach is in bloom again!,” I said in the best ultra-warbly Hepburnish voice I could muster. Or, I promised, she might try, “The cauliflowers are in bloom again!”

That’s when she said it. “You remind me of Bill Cosby.”

“Why?,” I asked, “Is it my magnificent tan?”

She laughed and said, “No, silly. I mean it. You have that sense of humor. The way you’re always dancing little jigs around the house, making these silly voices and bizarre things, like —” and here, I swear she did a much more Kate Hepburnish voice than I had — “‘The spinach is in bloom!'”

So there you have it. According to my wife, anyone who really wants to know what I’m like just needs to find syndicated re-runs of old Bill Cosby shows.

Personally, I always thought I had more in common with Cary Grant. After all, everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant.

Rick, the only thing you and Bill Cosby share is air.

You are Rick, THE Rick, Winkola the First, Husband of Bunny (lucky guy), Winkola Valentino and hopefully class president but you are NOT Bill Cosby, even if swimming, no drowning, in Jello.

Bunny, you’re perhaps the sweetest human on earth, but you HAVE to find a better comparison for the people who don’t know Rick!
