Power (Or the Lack Thereof)

Posted by Rick · September 21st, 2004 · 8 Comments

Well, I’ve now spent approximately four hours trying to get my servers working again after a power outage here that lasted about an hour and a half.

And just as there’s no explanation for the power outage, so, too, is there no explanation for why it took four hours for my servers to start working correctly again. After all the time I spent troubleshooting them, they just suddenly started working again for the same reason they went off — that is, no reason I can discern.

At any rate, that means the post I was working up earlier today is gone.

See you all tomorrow. 🙁

I feel your pain. Just think, it might have been worse. *sigh*

Glad to see you’re up and running again and all is well. See you tomorrow. 🙂

Yep. I thought of you while this was happening — and not just because of An Angry Bleeding Heart’s comment, either — and I kept saying, “It’s only a power outage…it’s only a power outage.”

My fear whenever all the servers goes down hard, though, is how difficult it’s going to be to get them back up and running again.

Thankfully, this was only a few hours of struggling.

P.S. This post counts as a test of whether my “automatically-approve registered comments” feature works.

    And it appears it does!

Anyone who has an appropriate TypeKey account (they’re free, so far as I know), can now click the link in the sentence that says “If you have a TypeKey identity, you can sign in to use it here,” or something to that effect (I can’t see it now because I’m signed in to TypeKey) and their posts will no longer have to wait for my approval before showing up on the blog.

Of course, I will still have the right to block abusers of the commenting system. So don’t. Abuse it, that is.

    And TypeKey works, too!

    Yo, Dude!

You could have filled out your TypeKey profile page, though! 😉

I did fill out some of the info but it would not display for me. It also took three tries to log into TypeKey to get this comment through.

From appearances, you posted your original comment (somehow) without logging in — it showed up in the queue awaiting approval.

Since your second comment posted and said essentially the same thing, I went ahead and deleted the other.

The only thing I see on your profile page is under the heading “A Little About Me:” where it says, “You’d be surprised…[.]” It won’t, naturally, allow me to respond to that on your profile page. 😉
