Explosive News

I’ve been waiting to post until I could finish the second in the series I was working on; the post to be titled “G-d’s President.”

But, apparently, G-d’s President wants to keep giving us reasons to pray like we’ve never prayed before.

President Bush has repeatedly pointed out that John Kerry cannot keep us safe. Unspun™ is now able to report the reason: George Bush is still President.

In 1988, with a little less than one pound of explosives, terrorists brought down Pan Am flight 103. Now 760,000 pounds — 380 tons — of the same material has turned up “missing” in Iraq. I wonder how many airplanes you can bring down with that?

The International Atomic Energy Agency publicly warned about the danger of these explosives before the war, and after the invasion it specifically told United States officials about the need to keep the explosives secured, European diplomats said in interviews last week. James Glanz, et al., “Huge Cache of Explosives Vanished from Site in Iraq” (October 25, 2004) ¶ 9, The New York Times.

The United States was responsible for this. And President Bush was aware of the danger of leaving 760,000 pounds of materials that could be utilized for purposes including the detonation of nuclear weapons unguarded. How could he not be? It wasn’t just any ol’ weapons cache. As the IAEA said, it was a chance for the terrorists to help “themselves to the greatest explosives bonanza in history.”

Administration officials say they cannot explain why the explosives were not safeguarded, beyond the fact that the occupation force was overwhelmed by the amount of munitions they found throughout the country. Glanz, supra.

Uh…maybe that’s why the IAEA told you about this particular cache of explosives twice?

As I understand it, the current administration is saying that if Kerry were elected, something like 9/11 might happen on his watch. Of course, 9/11 actually did happen on their watch.

Could these people be so dense that they cannot see the irony here?

Does anyone really feel safer than they did four years ago? I don’t.
