McCain-Obama-Palin Dance-Off

Or, “Seeing Isn’t Believing,” or, “How Dancing Gave Me Scars” (for life).

I’m not even sure what to say about this one. Uh, enjoy?

Double-talk: a.k.a. Lyin’ *wink*

Posted by RickH · October 20th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Sarah Palin, explaining how she favors a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, says,

I’m not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can’t do, should and should not do… (Scott Conroy, “Palin Breaks With McCain On Gay Marriage Ban” (October 20, 2008) CBS News From The Road.)

If that’s not double-talk, I don’t know what is.  “I’m not going to be out there…telling them what they can’t do…but I’ll be fightin’ fer a constitutional amendment tellin’ ’em what they can’t do!”

Actually, this isn’t double-talk.  It’s lyin’; it’s hypocrisy.  And it’s apparently thinkin’ yer too stupid to realize that she actually did it all in one sentence.  Plain and simple.

No big surprise, actually.  Isn’t that what the Republican candidates for President and Vice-President have so far shown they can do best?

You betcha.

Redistributing the Wealth

Posted by RickH · October 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I was reading an article today titled “What It Takes To Be Rich—Where You Live.” The article contains a chart giving average incomes for the top 20 percent and top 5 percent of people living in various cities.  My recommendation is that you look at those numbers, the numbers cited by economists in article links provided later in this past, and the numbers Obama has put out regarding his proposed tax plan.

In any event, once you’ve read this article, you’ll hopefully understand why both Obama and McCain call for a redistribution of wealth.  That’s what taxation is all about, after all.  The real question is, whose plan hurts the most Americans?  Whose plan helps fewer Americans?

Will The Real John McCain, Please Stand Up?

Posted by RickH · October 10th, 2008 · No Comments

When I was a kid, one of my favorite shows was “To Tell the Truth.” Each show featured several people who were all pretending to be the same person and panelists asked a series of questions to get clues as to who the real person was.  The “challengers” tried to trick the celebrity panelists with the way they answered the questions.  Sarah Palin never appeared on the show, partly because she was too young.  She would have been banned anyway, because the show required actually answering the questions which were asked, instead of the questions the challengers wanted to answer.

But this post isn’t about Sarah the Stonewaller.  This post is about the man who had no problem telling us what he believed, had no problem answering questions.  Or did he?

Watch these two videos to see if you can figure it out. If you want more, visit “therealmccain.com.”

So…will the real John McCain, please stand up?  Do those of you who intend to vote for him know which one you’re actually trying to elect?

I’m Not Goin’ Ta Talk About That

Posted by RickH · October 6th, 2008 · No Comments

I took extensive notes during the (vice-)presidential debate and was hoping to have the time for a post on the subject.  Unfortunately, my other life has some major deadlines looming, so in-depth analysis will have to wait.

However, this SNL skit pretty much sums up the direction I was moving and was much, much funnier.  Both comedians nailed their impressions.  Which makes you want to both laugh and cry.  Enjoy.

UPDATE: For reasons I cannot discover, attempting to paste the proper video into this post fails. Until/unless I can resolve this, you’ll need to click here to view the SNL video of the Palin/Biden debate.

For God’s Sake, Will You Just Answer the Question?

Posted by RickH · October 2nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

I’ve rather deliberately been trying to lay off the issue of Palin’s lack of experience and the absurdity of McCain picking her to soon become — as likely as not — the President of the United States.  As we head into the Vice-Presidential Debates tonight, I am no longer able to restrain myself.

Economic Surprise

Posted by RickH · September 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Congressional leaders were recently “stunned” to learn that the United States was “literally maybe days away from a complete meltdown of our financial system.”

Why stunned?
